PESHAWAR: The demonstration and sit-in against drone strikes organized by thePakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has started on the Ring Road in Peshawar.
PTI chief Imran Khan along with the party’s central leadership including Fauzia Kasuri, Jehangir Tareen, Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Javed Hashmi reached the venue to address from the gathering.
On the occasion,Awami League leader Sheikh Rasheed and Jamshed Dasti were also present .
While addressing the supporters, Sheikh Rasheed said that people are dying of diseases and price hikes. He alleged that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is following the agenda of unleashing violence across Pakistan.
He continued saying that today democracy is threatened by democracy. Country's economy has suffered the most and has almost been destroyed. The PM doesn't even know the prices of flour and vegetables in the country. He said that a gang of seven is ruling the country.
PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, while addressing the rally, said that people have given their verdict to block Nato supplies. He said that Pakistani people suffered a lot but the world does not acknowledge the sacrifices we have made so far. He further said that Imran Khan's stance vis-a-vis missile strikes has also been vindicated by the UN.
Thousands of demonstrators protesting US drone strikes have blocked Ring Road in northwest Pakistan used to truck NATO troop supplies and equipment in and out of Afghanistan.
Strict security measures have been taken to avoid any untoward situation.
The rally is currently being addressed by PTI leader Imran Khan while Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Syed Munawar Hasan is also due to address the protest rally.
