KARACHI: Leader of Shia Ulema Council (SUC) Shabbir Matmi Saturday announced to cancel the protest demonstrations which were scheduled to be held Sunday under the SUC’s banner.

Addressing a press conference here, Shabbir Matimi appealed to the government and Supreme Court of Pakistan to probe the Rawalpindi incident and bring those to justice who orchestrated it.

The SUC leader said since that the participants of the mourning procession in Rawalpindi on the occasion of Ahura neither had weapons nor petrol on them, so the question arises where these things came from.

He also demanded of the government to investigate into the torching of 300 Qurans in mosques and Imam Bargahs.

Shabbir Matmi said the situation would improve if the Shia and Sunni communities stand up to the enemies of Islam together.
