60 Year Philippine singer Embraced Islam, Marries 16 Year Old GF

Freddie Aguilar (New Muslim Name is Abdul Farid) and his new wife Jovi Gatdula Albao (New Muslim Name is Sittie Mariam) are wishing that controversy of their wedding will stop soon.

Manila: Philippine music icon and Muslim convert 60 year aged Freddie Aguilar tied wedding to his 16 year old girl friend Gatdula Albao. The wedding took place based on Muslim rituals in Buluan, report the sources.

A day before, the re-known singer had announced of entering into folds of Islam with tying the marriage knot to his girl friend. Freddie said that he had developed love for Islam from the year 2001. He then went to study the detailed Islamic preaching, thereby converting to a Muslim.

Freddie enjoys global reputation for her vocal mesmerizing voice. He has sung many songs over the time period of his career. ‘Abdul Fared’ is now new name of Aguilar which means ‘servant of God’. Abdul Wahid Sumaoang held the marriage rituals of the two.

The musician said that they have entered into matrimonial relationships based on Islamic teachings and rituals. Holy Prophet (Peace Be upon Him) had also married Hazrat Ayesha when she was only 16 year old.

According to the Islamic teaching, a woman shall be married on her first menstrual period. Governor Mujiv Hataman of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) said that he looks forward to Abdul Fared to practice Islam. ‘Hopefully he had not taken the decision to marry Albao only’, said the high official.They further said that democracy permits freedom of religion; hence conversion of the singer to Islam is acceptable.

A Child Abuse Case has been filed against singer as his new wife is under 18 year old, Local Media reported
